Mobile apps at events have just started being truly meaningful

When planning a conference one of the main goals before the event is to drive attendance.  But during the event, the main goal should be to drive engagement.  How do we best engage our audience and keep them engaged?  One way is by using mobile apps.  Mobile apps. have become a hot trend at conferences because they do just that.  They help drive engagement and offer extra value to our audience.  An article, written by Michael Powers at Marketo, lists five features to include in a mobile app that will maximize event engagement.

Some additional ideas in engaging your audience during the events that we have are:

  • Turn your print dailies into email dailies
  • Create a video wrap-up of each day and post on YouTube or Wistia and announce, tweet, text your attendees to know that it's out there (especially virtual attendees or interested, prospective attendees who may be watching your hashtag during the event and using this feed as a decision point as to whether the event is worth their time & money
  • Every mobile app has a content management system and analytics behind it--don't forget that you could hook into this and automate emails from it, identify the "active mobile attendees" to add into later segmentations, flag in your database or assign points in lead scoring or engagement scoring schemas.
