Automating campaigns is everyone’s dream and biggest fear.  Eliminating the amount of work and time that goes into building and testing these emails is always a win, right?   At some point we all want to be able to set it and forget it.  On the other hand, letting go of the control and trusting that the system will be accurate is the hardest piece, so it is important to eliminate the risk.  That said, one way to do that is to choose the method of deployment.

To help you decide, here are a few tips to pick the best method:

  1. Workflows are ideal for email campaigns that:
    • Has a trigger: clicked on a form, downloaded an ebook, signed up for membership
    • “If”/”Then” Scenarios: if a subscriber clicks this then send them that but if they click and are a member then send them ‘x2’
    • On-going: the subscriber is being passed through preset workflows that is sending different emails based on the behavior the subscriber is taking

  2. Dynamic Lists are ideal for:
    • No Trigger: You are choosing or pre-determining the subscribers
    • Same Content Being Sent: If the only piece changing is the list and the emails are all the same
    • Campaigns with an end: discounts or promotions around a product, events, webinars
    • Campaigns that lead into a workflow: Often dynamic lists are used for a series of emails that go out to get subscribers to convert. Once converted they can be dropped into a workflow to continue a journey based on the action taken.
