SEO Myths & What You Need to Know for Your Association

Content, Social & Digital Marketing

mailto:demo@example.com?Subject=HighRoad Solutions - interesting article

Our Toolkit of the Month for August is now available. We have brought you a piece originally created by HubSpot that looks at common SEO myths and breaks it down for what you need to care about today in order to keep your website fresh. SEO companies were all over our voice mails, emails and phones several years ago telling us that we need to rewrite our homepages for thousands of dollars. Then, seems that SEO/SEM has kind of faded into the background without a lot of coverage anymore in the association world.

What we're seeing on a continuous basis is that the best practices that were trotted out in the late 90s/early 2000s are still not being used and we have to shelve best practices because of time constraints (after all, gotta get out that email is the #1 priority). This has hurt most associations because so much time is put into email, but websites and landing pages are largely sitting untouched!

Bring back the luster of your web pages by remembering to use some of the basics of search engine marketing such as:

  • meta descriptions
  • page titles that are less than 70 characters
  • alt tags on images
  • readable links that are not "click here"
  • links from external sites that are pointing to your site

We hope you enjoy this month's refresher and get excited about incorporating these best practices into your digital work!
